The stars are arriving for the Royal Highland Show.

T in the Park, the Royal National Mod and the Ryder Cup all attract massive audiences but they pale in comparison to The Royal Highland Show which regularly pulls in crowds of over 175,000 over four days.

Taking place from this tomorrow until Sunday, the 174th Royal highland Show will take place at Ingliston, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, its permanent home since 1960.

Family friendly

Designed to be a showcase for farming, food and the countryside, it’s a family-friendly affair which is packed to bursting with prize-winning livestock, show-jumping, a motor zone, music, forestry events, a children’s discover centre and, best of all for the 5pm Dining blog, loads of great food and drink plus cookery demonstrations.

Over 100 food producers

One of the highlights will be the Scotland Food & Drink Hall which will feature a host of quality and award-winning products from almost 100 companies.

These range from big hitters such as Mackies of Scotland and Walkers Shortbread to first time exhibitors such as Strathearn Distillery, a botanical gin producer from Methven, Perthshire.

Cookery demonstrations

With a four day rolling programme of more than 30 demonstrations, the Scotland Food & Drink Cookery Theatre will be a hot spot for food fans. Among the chefs taking part are Paul Wedgewood of Wedgewood Restaurant; David Haetzman of Kyloe and Neil Forbes of Café St Honoré.

Show opening times and ticket prices: Thursday: 7am-8pm. Friday and Saturday: 8am-8pm. Sunday: 8am-6.30pm.

Admission price on all four days is £25 with concessions at £20 available for senior citizens and students. All children under 15 accompanied by an adult go free. Car parking is £8 per day.
