Need some culinary inspiration for the weekend?

You might want to swing by the GWCT Scottish Game Fair at Scone Palace this weekend.

Running each day from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July, the event will feature The Scottish Game Fair Food Hall and Cookery Theatre.

The former, which is sponsored by Isle of Skye 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, showcases some of Scotland’s finest food and drink producers from artisan cheese manufacturers and dairy delights to the finest game, poultry and preserves all under one roof.

Three days of demonstrations

The Cookery Theatre, sponsored by Perth Kitchen Centre, is part of the Food Hall with demonstrations throughout the three days of the fair.

There will be a varied programme of visiting chefs demonstrating everything from roe deer butchery to dishes made with foraged foods.

Thanks in part to our Welsh genes and in part to a mis-spent adolescence, this 5pm Dining blogger is also looking forward to some of the fair’s other attractions.

Crazy axe action

The Mitsubishi 4×4 course and the five minute helicopter tours are all well and good but our attention was transfixed by the news that the entertainment programme includes The Welsh Axemen.

Apparently, these fearless lumberjacks will be delivering death-defying feats with razor sharp axes. Sounds like a lively Saturday night in Blaenavon in the Seventies to me.

If you are there on the Friday afternoon around 5pm then you should be able to spot the Queen’s Baton Relay which is passing through the fair site before embarking on a river boat trip to Perth.

Tickets from here.
