Both the ancient Greeks and the Romans, along with plenty of other people, had haggis, or a haggis-like dish, in their culinary repertoire.

However, these days, the dish is best known as being a Scottish classic.

How did that come about?

These and many more questions are answered in Haggis Haggis Haggis, The True Story, a new play which is being performed at the Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh as part of the Fringe.

Funny and wry

Funny, wry, sometimes surreal and more than a little tongue in cheek, the play was devised by Stuart Delves and is performed by Ideoms Theatre Company.

The award-winning playwright spent six months embedded in the Macsween haggis firm as a writer/storyteller in residence.

Macsween 60th birthday

The result is a spirited look at not just haggis and its origins but also the stories behind the people who make the dish at Macsween.

The family company celebrates 60 years in the haggis-making business this year.

You can buy tickets for the play from the Fringe Box Office here.
