The 5pm Dining blog is a little bleary this morning having attended an anCnoc whisky launch at midnight last night. We’ll have more on that over the next couple of days.

Until then, our sleepy head has not stopped us from looking forward to this weekend when there are all sorts of food-related frolics taking place under the umbrella of the Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight.

Land of Food and Drink

Over the next sixteen days, Scotland’s farmers, fishermen, chefs, food processors and retailers are running hundreds of events with the aim of celebrating Scottish produce and hammering home the idea that Scotland is a Land of Food and Drink.

There will be guided farm tours, cooking demos, debates, foraging classes, even the opportunity to distil your own gin. You can browse the full schedule from here.

One of the events which caught our eye was the Loch Lomond Food and Drink Festival taking place at Loch Lomond Shores this coming weekend.

Haggis-eating competition

A free event, with free parking, there will be producer stalls, live music, cookery demos, WWII cookery demos, kids’ activities and, this is our favourite, a haggis-eating competition.

The event also incorporates Lochtoberfest – a two day beer festival featuring beers from nearby breweries such as Alechemy, Fyne Ales, Knops and Tryst.

Roll on the weekend…
