Our Michelle in 5pm Customer Care visited New Cafe Punjab, an Indian restaurant in Clydebank and here’s her rundown (and scroll through what her and her friend ordered in the photos above).

Tell us about the decor/atmosphere

michelleThe decor was quite minimal/understated – no pretension at all, which I liked! It was fairly relaxed and felt quite ‘open’ although the restaurant itself isn’t particularly big.

What dishes did you and dining partner have?

We decided to share starters, so we ordered mixed pakora (light, crispy batter and quality chicken, mushroom & veg fillings) and poppadoms with spiced onions.

For the main course, my friend Evie ordered the chicken korma, I had the lamb garam masala (the meat was so tender, it practically melted in the mouth) and the waiter recommended we order one accompaniment of rice and another of naan bread to share between us – a very good idea!

What did you think about the food?

Delicious and very filling, the poppadoms and naan bread were huge – it was a good job that the two of us were seated at a table meant for four.

Neither of us could manage dessert, but the waiter very kindly allowed us to take a portion of gulab jamun each home with us.

Tell us 3 things you liked

Great value – £22 for 2 people to receive 3 courses each from a menu with a range of items, AND a bottle of wine to share? We were delighted! We were also given the option of swapping the wine for a beer or soft drink each instead (nope, we wanted the wine).

Location – It’s in a terrific location in my hometown as it’s right behind Clydebank train station; has a taxi rank across the road; and is round the corner from the Clyde shopping centre car park as well as bus routes with numerous services to places like Drumchapel, Balloch, Glasgow West End and city centre, and even as far afield as Airdrie.

Service – the staff were really very accommodating and helpful.

Why should others try the restaurant?

We were made to feel very welcome and when I mentioned that I was unsure of which curry I would like, the waiter was very informative although it made choosing difficult as they all sounded so good!

Evie actually ended up taking the takeaway menu home with her as she found out soon after that New Cafe Punjab deliver to where she stays. Definitely a repeat customer, there!

Anything else you’d like to add?

This place certainly feels like it’s a hidden gem, waiting for more people to discover it. I’ve already recommended New Cafe Punjab to my family, and will certainly be returning myself at some point.
