Rudolf? Is that you?
Rudolf? Is that you?

The Khublai Khan Mongolian BBQ team terrified the 5pm office recently by sending us an email which threatened that ‘Santa Claus will not arrive this year as Khublai Khan Restaurant has Rudolf and his mates on the Christmas menu.’

What next? Should the John Lewis penguin beef up his security?

Exotic dining experiences

It seems as though the Khublai Khan Restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh will stop at nothing to provide their customers with exotic dining experiences. They have even come up with a festive ditty to strike fear into the heart of hard-working reindeer:

‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer could very well be on your plate!

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with garlic and chilli, smells real great!’

We don’t reckon it will knock the Band Aid song off the Christmas Number One spot but it did make us feel slightly peckish.

Traditional Mongolian dish

The reindeer appears on the restaurants’ festive feast menu as tsaa buga – cumin-flavoured, minced reindeer which comes in a crispy pastry parcel served with a hot and sour sauce. Apparently, it’s a traditional Mongolian dish.

As you might imagine, reindeer is not the most exotic meat which Khublai Khan have on their menus.

Zebra, kangaroo, crocodile, camel and even alpaca have been known to make an appearance alongside more conventional springbok, chicken, beef and pork.

Christmas party

If you have never eaten at Khublai Khans before then it’s a fun experience. Diners select their own ingredients which are then cooked to order by hotplate chefs.

It would be good crack for a Christmas party. While endorsing the idea that no-one should exceed their medically recommended limits, Khublai Khans points out that they serve four pint iced beer towers and five pint cocktail fishbowls.

Gangnam style is sooo 2012. It's all about Mongolian style BBQ at Khubla Khans.
