Tabac: lighting up on Mitchell Street.
Tabac: lighting up on Mitchell Street.

Today we have a round-up of rumours, whispers and dodgy dossiers on developments in Glasgow’s ever changing restaurant scene.

First up, we hear that Mess Cantina on Otago Street is no more. Or at least their Facebook page has gone and their phone line is dead.

Via the excellent Yelp community, we understand that a steakhouse, possibly called Tiffany’s, is going to open on the site.

TBH, we’re pretty much in the dark on this one although we deffo do know that Mess Cantina in East Kilbride continues to bash out the burritos.

Tabac sparks up

It’s also thanks to Yelp that we have learned of Tabac.

Billed as an ‘illicit drinking den’, it will replace the venerable Bar Ten on Mitchell Lane.

Caribbean street food

We’ve also caught wind of a new opening on Hope Street. For the last few years, Fire in Babylon have been cutting about town running roots and reggae sound systems while dishing up Caribbean street food.

Word has it that they are about to open a permanent restaurant on Hope Street.

Fans of Italian food can also look forward to Gusto opening on Bothwell Street at the end of March.

The chain has been dishing up the rigatoni in Edinburgh for quite some time. The Glasgow restaurant will be Gusto’s second Scottish outlet.

Sticking with the chains, Bill’s is pencilled in for a launch on West Nile Street on the 30th of March.

All day dining from ‘breakfast to bedtime and everything in between’ is the motto.
