In St Andrews, the award-winning Adamson restaurant on South Street has just launched its adjacent Adamson Bar.

At one point, the building was used as a post office. The new bar is in the old sorting room.

Since opening in 2012, the existing small bar within The Adamson restaurant had proved popular with cocktail fans.

Adding a dedicated cocktail bar was a no-brainer according to Managing Director, Julie Lewis:

‘Our restaurant has been included in the last three consecutive Michelin Guides, we hold two AA rosettes and last year won Restaurant of the Year from Food Awards Scotland. But we know our customers love cocktails – and we wanted to expand and accommodate them more comfortably as well as to provide an offering that is unique in St Andrews.’

Signature cocktail

The property was once the home of St Andrews’ Doctor and pioneer of photography, Dr John Adamson. As a nod to the property’s history, The Adamson has a signature cocktail, The Physician, created by Julie’s husband and Operations’ Director, Mike Lewis.

Mike describes The Physician, as ‘a really well balanced and decadent drink. The sweet and floral notes from the St Germain are well complimented by fresh mint and the ripe raspberries make it feel very self-indulgent. It is a good one!’

Customers can choose from a range of bar plates to accompany the cocktails. The menu includes East Coast crab with crème-fraiche, horseradish and soft herbs plus a charcuterie board of Italian and Spanish meats served with pickles and toasted artisan bread.

MasterChef: The Professionals

If you are a fan of MasterChef then you will probably recognise Scott Davies, the Head Chef at The Adamson. He was runner-up in the 2013 MasterChef: The Professionals.

Last week, it was announced that Scott is to move to Skye to take over the head chef position at the Three Chimneys but he will be at The Adamson until June.
