Saturday will see the official opening weekend of WEST bar and restaurant in Glasgow’s West End.

West on the Corner, to give the new bar its full name, is on Woodlands Road in the premises previously occupied by The Halt.

Opened in 2006, the original WEST brewery, bar and restaurant continues to operate in the Templeton Building on Glasgow Green.

West on the Corner follows on from last summer’s WEST pop-up bar in the former Halt premises.

A four month renovation has seen many original features restored. Stained and leaded glass panels and sandstone walls are among the newly unveiled design features in the 120 seat bar and kitchen.

The USP of the original WEST was its adherence to the 1516 Rheinheitsgebot – German brewing laws. The new WEST will stock at least ten draft WEST brews while the open plan kitchen will serve classic Scottish and German dishes.

Speaking about the new bar, WEST owner Petra Wetzel said, ‘Woodlands Road was my home as a student at Glasgow University and I am thrilled that people in the local area and from further afield now have an alternative WEST in the West End.

‘A versatile and laid back bar and restaurant, it’s the perfect spot to pop in for a coffee, have a pint, grab a quick bite or stay for a full three course meal. And with children and dogs also welcome, it’s a great place for everyone to get together!’

The opening of WEST on the Corner is the first of two large-scale, WEST projects to come to fruition in 2015.

The company has also begun work of on a new, state-of-the art brewery due to open in the Templeton building this autumn. The new plant will increase the company’s brewing capacity ten-fold upon and enable it to keep up with the growing demand for its award-winning lagers and wheat beers.
