There has been loads of research into how differently shaped wine glasses, cutlery and plates can influence the way that food and drink taste.

Here at the 5pm Dining blog, we have taken this to the next level and investigated how our sense of taste can be altered by our seating arrangements.

After extensive research, we can exclusively reveal that few things improve a cup of lapsang souchong more than being parked on a classic Charles Rennie Mackintosh ladder-backed chair.

Oh, alright. We’re kidding.

Locally sourced produce

However, you can cast an eye over some gorgeous Mackintosh design at a new pop-up at Loch Lomond Shores.

Fans of the Mack and Willow Tea Rooms can enjoy a taste of Mackintosh on the Loch as Willow Tea Rooms opens a new pop-up venue at the Balloch venue.

Situated on the shores of Loch Lomond, the pop-up tea room offers table service and the very best in locally sourced produce.

To give visitors a taste of Mackintosh design, the space will feature a collection of Mackintosh chairs by Glasgow furniture designer, Bruce Hamilton. The collection includes: the garden chair from Windyhill; the Blackie; The Argyle and Mackintosh’s famous ladder backed chairs.

Beautiful setting

Anne Mulhern, owner of The Willow Tea Rooms, said: ‘Loch Lomond is one of the most beautiful places in the country and we are thrilled to be popping up there from now until end of October.

‘Fans of the Willow Tea Rooms can enjoy a quality dining experience and great service in the most wonderful of settings. We are looking forward to welcoming customers who have visited our tea rooms in Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street and new customers who haven’t had the chance to experience the wonder of the Willow Tea Rooms.’

Open from 10am until 5pm daily, Willow Tea Rooms Loch Lomond will serve breakfast until noon (2pm on Sundays) and lunch is served daily from 11.30am-5pm.
