Get ready to rumble as Sauchie Beer Hall; The Atlantic Bar and Brasserie, Po Boyz and The Tayberry launch.

A few days back, just after the launch of the Bavaria Brauhaus, the 5pm Dining blog was scratching its noggin and wondering why Glasgow didn’t have more German-style beer halls.

Not for the first time, I may have been a little premature.

Oompah bands

Glasgow-based beer lovers should brace themselves for the arrival of the Sauchie Beer Hall which launches at the rock ‘n’ roll end of Sauchiehall Street (see what they did there?) this Friday.Sauchie Beer Hall Logo

Open Wednesday to Sunday, it promises oompah band shows, comedians, live music and more live sport than anyone could ever need.

The full beer list isn’t available at the time of writing but Weihenstephan, Furstenberg and Glasgow’s own St Mungo will be part of the offer.

Dancing on the table

Details are a little sketchy at the moment but the venture does seem to be aimed squarely at the student/party market.

Drinking songs and dancing on the tables are promised. Their marketing assures would-be customers that the new bar will provide ‘the most fun you will have with your clothes on!’

All good although it does make us suspect that the bar staff at Urban Bar and Brasserie, The Anchor Line and Hutchesons will not be fearful for their jobs as a result of the Sauchie Beer Hall launch.

We wish them every luck.

Po Boyz

In other news, look out for Po Boyz, a southern American/Cajun style restaurant which is scheduled to open in the Broomhill Shopping centre soon.

It is owned by the same people that have Gumbo on Byres Road.

The Atlantic Bar and Brasserie

We will also mention The Atlantic Bar and Brasserie, a new French restaurant which should open its doors on Wednesday.

It’s the latest from the DRG or Di Maggio’s Restaurant Group and we’ll do a full post on it tomorrow.

The Tayberry

Finally, we’ll have a shout out for Adam Newth as the young chef opens his own place, The Tayberry, in Broughty Ferry tonight.

More info later this week.
