Chequers Cocktail House: making weekends better.
Chequers Cocktail House: making weekends better.

Ah Friday, the happiest of all days. The working week is pretty much done and dusted while the infinite possibilities of the weekend beckon.

For many, the good times will start to roll with a couple of after work drinks this evening.

If you are in the market for something new then you might want to belly up to the bar at Chequers Cocktail House and Grill on Great Western Road.

Speakeasy

Open to the public for the first time today, it is a speakeasy style hangout with lots of nooks and crannies, subtle lighting and a dramatic sweeping bar.

Including Martinis and Champagne cocktails, their drinks list has 22 signature cocktails and, of course, the bar tenders will always be more than happy to knock you up a classic Cosmo or Mojito.

We don’t have precise details but some unconventional flavour pairings are promised. If you have ever wondered what tarragon and apricot would taste like or how jalapeno-infused cachaca would meld with marmalade then head to 665 Great Western Road.

Brunch will be a big part of the offer. In particular, the Big Chequer breakfast looks a good bet to sort out any morning after the night before vibes.

Brunch on this

It features smoked bacon, Stornoway black pudding, butcher’s pork and herb sausages, baked beans, tattie scone, filled mushroom, tomato and free range eggs with toast. Probably not a great idea to plan on doing anything sporty after that little lot.

The other menus major on contemporary pub food. The burgers come highly recommended and come topped with a special ketchup which is made in house.

It won’t see much action over the next few months, one imagines, but the adjacent beer garden looks set to be popular when the warm weather returns.
