Bread Meats Bread has launched on Lothian Road.

A few new places have popped up over the last couple of weeks.

Bread Meats Bread have expanded out from their Glasgow base and opened on Lothian Road in the capital.

Exotic variations on the burger theme, poutine and chips plus gourmet sandwiches make up the backbone of the menu.

The 5pm Dining blog is always a sucker for a good pun and we are delighted to award full marks to Bread Meats Bread for coming up with the Fear and Lothian burger.

Sticking with burgers, The Wee Burger Kitchen has opened on Edinburgh’s Nicholson Street. We can’t find any online presence but feel safe in saying that there is a big clue in the name.

New Glasgow restaurants

Heading back across the M8, the STV new site has reported on developments at the old garage on Vinicombe Street. Apparently, it is being renovated with a view to housing a 24 hour gym and three restaurants.

An outlet of the Byron burger chain and a new venture from Jonathan MacDonald of Ox and Finch are said to be in the pipeline.

In other news, Ox and Finch’s pastry chef, Iain Baillie – formerly of The Fat Duck, One Devonshire Gardens and Gleneagles – has flown the nest to open his own place on Dumbarton Road.

Tantrum Doughnuts is scheduled to open at 9am this Thursday. Doughnut lovers can look forward to handcrafted creations such as the dark chocolate truffle ganache doughnut.

Moving from the West End to the centre of town, CAU has opened in the shiny new CONNECT11ONS building on Queen Street.

As we noted a few weeks back, it is an Argentinean steakhouse.
