We’ve just added a couple of new restaurants to the 5pm Dining roster in Glasgow.

Just opened in the last week or so is Dim Sum Restaurant on West Nile Street. The split level restaurant sits in the premises formerly occupied by Perla.

Despite the dim sum of the title, steamed or fried dumplings and rolls are just one of the many goodies on offer here.

In addition to build-your-own noodle bowls, there rice bowls with fillings such as duck and bean sprout plus gua bao. The latter are Hong Kong style flat breads with fillings like char sui pulled pork and hoi sin vegetables.

There is a strong fusion element to the menu. Haggis wonton; Peking pulled duck tacos and a salad made with scallops, Stornoway black pudding, apple and fennel are among the more boundary-crossing options.

Ocho gets its numbers right

We’ll also do a big shout out to Ocho Delicatessen, a fairly new opening on Speirs Wharf.

Owner Natasha Myles and Head Chef Kamaria McBride launched at the end of last October and have quickly found favour with menus that prioritise fresh, local and organic produce. From the breakfast pancakes to the venison casserole, as much as possible is made from scratch.

It’s an endearingly quirky cafe bistro sort of operation with breakfasts and brunch items giving way to light lunches and deli sarnies.

More complex options might run from an omega 3 superfood salad made with kale, carrots, seeds, edamame beans and grilled winter squash to pork sausages on root veg mash with caramelised onion gravy.

From gluten-free dishes to allergen friendly requirements, Ocho deftly handles dietary preferences without making a song and dance about it.

Up to 4pm today, you can enjoy two courses from the Ocho market menu plus a cheeky glass of wine for £9.95.
