Searching for a restaurant deal in Edinburgh? Grand Cru is an excellent option. The New Town restaurant is hugely popular with 5pm customers  – here’s why.

The Food

Grand Cru Chocolate Brownie

With a menu that combines classic Italian with modern bar food, the menu at Grand Cru has something to suit every taste. Chicken liver parfait is a popular starter and the chargrilled sirloin steak and risotto with market green vegetables are main course favourites. The homemade chocolate brownie is the pick of the desserts. Many reviews on 5pm have noted the large portions.

The Location

Grand Cru

Less than a ten minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station, Grand Cru is right in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town. Its location just off the George Street party circuit gives it a bit of breathing space from the action while remaining close to the many bars and restaurants in the area.

The Cocktails

Grand Cru

Grand Cru has a huge cocktail list that includes classics such as the Cosmopolitan and Margarita as well as more inventive creations such as the Zombie (Bacardi Oro, Bacardi Superior, Santa Teresa Rum, Orange, La Fee Parisian, apricot liqueur, pineapple juice, passion fruit syrup, lime juice and grenadine)” and the Japanese Slipper (Midori liqueur, Cointreau, fresh lemon juice, sugar syrup).” We love the ones with the Scottish slant such as the Scottish Summer (cucumber with Hendricks gin, St Germain liqueur, lime cordial topped with Prosecco) and the Scottish Breakfast (Glenlivet 12 yo malt, Calvados apple cognac, maple syrup, sugar syrup and cream).

The Atmosphere

During the day Grand Cru’s floor to ceiling windows make it a bright spot to accompany the breakfast menu and provides great people watching opportunities for lunch. When the evening arrives, the lights are turned down, the DJ plays carefully selected tracks, and the cocktails are poured, to create a dreamy and sensuous atmosphere.

The 5pm Deal

Grand Cru Past

A Grand Cru 5pm deal of £9.95 for 2 courses from 12pm-8.15pm offers excellent value for money. Not only that, the 5pm reviews are excellent, with one recent review saying: “We arrived early, but we got our table straight away, the staff could not have been better. Food arrived and for the money it was first class, a couple of bottles of wine and the chilled atmosphere made for the perfect evening, and not rushed out the door. A healthy tip was left for out waitress who was nothing short of brilliant. I will be back and would recommend to friends without question. Thankyou.” Another recent review says: “Good honest bar food served in a nice relaxing atmosphere. Service was personal and efficient. Exceptional value for money particularly for Edinburgh.”
