We’ve rounded up a sweet selection of food news nuggets and a couple of possible dates for your diary.

First up, we’ll mention the Sensory Dining event taking place tomorrow evening (Sat 19 March) at Edinburgh’s One Square.

In celebration of Earth Hour 2016, One Square is turning off the lights and hosting a blindfolded, candle-lit sensory dinner in its private dining room.

Following on from a drinks reception at 6.30pm, diners will be treated to a five-course mystery dinner, served with paired wines.

Tickets are £69 per person with £5 donated to WWF Earth Hour. Reserve your place by contacting marketing.sheratongrand@sheraton.com or call 0131 221 6422.

Master Butcher demo

Ten days later, Glasgow’s Hutchesons is serving up an evening dedicated to the skills of Master Butcher, John Gilmour.

John Gilmour Butchers have worked with both Hutchesons, and their sister restaurant, The Butchershop Bar & Grill, for years.

The butchers are well known throughout the restaurant trade for supplying the highest quality beef from The Scottish Borders.

From the standard of the cut right through to their dedicated aging process, no stone is left unturned by John Gilmour Butchers in their unending quest to deliver an unrivalled product.

On Tuesday 29 March, John Gilmour will deliver a butchery demo at Hutchesons followed by a beautiful bespoke five course menu starring products sourced from John Gilmour Butchers.

Tickets are £60 a head and the event starts at 7pm.

To get tix, call 0141 552 4050, quoting Gilmour Evening. Full deposit to be paid at time of booking to secure your reservation.

If you are otherwise engaged that evening, Hutchesons has plenty of tempting 5pm offers. Two courses on the set lunch or pre-theatre menu are yours for £15.95.

Gluten-free beer

Finally, if you are in the market for gluten-free beer then you may well be interested in the first two brews produced by Edinburgh’s Bellfield Brewery, the first entirely gluten-free (GF) craft brewery to brew in the UK.

The first two beers from the brewery are:

Lawless Village – an IPA named after the area of Portobello where the founders come from.

Bellfield Bohemian – a traditional pilsner-type beer brewed using traditional Noble and Saaz hops.

Other beers will follow including a golden ale, a stout and other IPA and lager-style beers.

Bellfield Brewery has also announced a move into its own premises in the Abbeyhill area of the city.

The fit-out of the 2500sq ft premises starts this month and is due to be complete – with the brewery fully operational – by July.
