There will always be blue skies at Boardwalk Beach Club.
There will always be blue skies at Boardwalk Beach Club.

It’s been such an action-packed week for new openings that it would have been a shame not to end with another one.

Word reaches the 5pm Dining blog that the arrival of spring means the imminent opening of Boardwalk Beach Club on the Cramond Foreshore in Edinburgh.

There has been a beach-side café there for the last fifty years although this blogger has never actually seen it in operation for at least the last five or so. Not that that should count as conclusive proof. We’re not frequent visitors. Not yet.

The Scottish Riviera

Anyway, the premises appear to have a new operator who promises ‘coffee, cakes, ice cream, soup and more’.

The Facebook page for Boardwalk Beach Club is well worth a swatch as whoever writes it has an active imagination and a fine way with words – always a winning combo around these parts.

In between singing the praises of the Cote D’Edimburgo, AKA the Scottish Riviera, Tartan Tropics or Boardwalk Baywatch, the author promises views of ‘sun-tanned lovelies’ and ‘well toned beach hunks’ – all of whom have been sadly lacking anytime this scribbler has ventured down to Paradiso Cramond.

The operator is certainly casting his net wide in terms of the different Edinburgh groups he hopes to attract to Boardwalk Beach Club.

Meet the Meadowbank Mammas

According to one post, the café is looking forward to welcoming ‘the Cramond Yummy Mummies, Blackhall Fashionistas, Barnton Babes, Granton Glitterati, Leith Lovelies, Inverleith It Girls, Colinton Super Models, Portobello Posh Tottie, Stockbridge Style Icons, Hillpark Hunks, D’Mains Dog Walkers, Restalrig Runners, Joppa Joggers, Ravelston Rascals, Pilton Hotties, Corstorphine Cyclists, Trinity Groovers, Dalry Divas, Craigleith Casanovas, Clermiston Carers, Drum Brae Daddies, Murrayfield Mummies, New Town Tractor Drivers, Morningside Fur Coaters, Drylaw Dancers, Buckstone Bellydancers, Cammo 4×4 Riders, Go, Meadowbank Mammas, Craiglockhart Cool Dudes, Braehead Bikinis, Slateford Speedo wearers, Mayfield Men, Willowbrae Women, Juniper Green Grannies, Longstone Ladies, Chesser Cats, Almond Artists, Newington Nannies, Muirhouse Madames, Bruntsfield Caffeine Heads, Pilrig Princesses etc.’

The Buckstone Bellydancers and Slateford Speedo wearers are new ones to us. Are they undiscovered tribes who have yet to make first contact?

We’ll let you know when Boardwalk Beach Club opens for business and we wish them every success.
