Poco Havana

Glasgow’s restaurant scene is like a huge pot of simmering soup with new bars and restaurants constantly bubbling to the top while others fall back down.

Currently coming to a boil on West Regent Street is Poco Havana Bar and Cantina, a new Cuban/Latin American bar/restaurant at 48A West Regent Street. The address was previously home to Burger Meats Bun and then Bo Kantina.

Cocktails

The new venture opens to the public on Friday.

At the time of writing, concrete menu details are not available but the 5pm Dining blog understands that tacos, burritos, tapas, cocktails and beer will all be core planks of Poco Havana’s appeal.

Honey tequila

From their Facebook page, it appears that they have been testing a cocktail made with honey tequila, blueberries and marmalade. Pretty much all the necessary ingredients for a breakfast sharpener.

The duo behind the new restaurant and bar have spent the last ten years working in places like Barca Tapas, NY American Grill and Cranachan, all in Princes Square. They worked their way up the ranks from waiting to managerial roles.

Poco Havana is their first solo venture.

Opening party tix

The new restaurant and bar will launch with a party tomorrow evening (Thu 17) and there might just be some tickets available. You can register your interest on their website or Facebook page.

It does seem as though Latin American/Caribbean/Cuban restaurants are all the rage at the moment. In Glasgow, Poco Havana joins relatively new arrivals such as Las Iguanas, Mango and Sugar Dumplin. The veterans of the scene are Boteco do Brasil opposite the Tron Theatre.
