Seafood paella is among the dishes on offer at the new Mi Casa tapas restaurant.

It’s Monday and the start of a new working week. Here’s a handful of new or imminent Glasgow restaurants to get your teeth into.

We’ll be serving up a second slice of new opening goodness on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, we’ll be bringing you news of the 23rd (!) edition of The List Eating and Drinking Guide which is officially published on Wednesday.

Mi Casa

First up, say ‘Hola!’ to Mi Casa, a Spanish tapas restaurant which has opened on John Street in the Merchant City.

According to the website, many of the restaurant’s tapas dishes originated in Zaragoza in northern Spain.

I’ll ‘fess up that I couldn’t tell a northern tapas from an Andalucian one but there are certainly lots of familiar dishes on the Mi Casa menu from prawn pil pil to pan-fried padron peppers.

A few of the dishes offer alternatives to those most commonly found on tapas menus. The chicken wings in an orange and beer sauce and the pasta-based paella or fideua leap out from the menu.

The blog understands that Mi Casa will joining 5pm Dining shortly.

Fanelli’s

Sticking in the same part of Glasgow, Fanelli’s Italian restaurant looks set to re-open in Merchant Square in the next couple of weeks. Apparently, the upstairs area will be a rather cool terrace bar.

Fanelli’s will also be on 5pm Dining.

NORD Kitchen

Moving to Partick, NORD Kitchen is a pop-up which has been running for a little while in For FIKA Sake on Keith Street.

It bills itself as offering ‘modern Nordic cuisine’. Scandi cuisine is very much in the limelight at the moment although there seems to be more places (Soderberg, Seasons) doing it in Edinburgh than Glasgow.

The menus at NORD Kitchen look interesting. Lamb smoked over onion peel or cured mackerel with fermented rhubarb are not the sort of options which one stumbles over very often.

Dark Horse?

We’ll also put a call out for info on the former Squid and Whale on Great Western Road. We understand that it closed its doors the weekend before last.

The well-informed Yelpers reckon that it’s re-opening as Dark Horse. The 5pm Dining blog can’t find anything about it online but that could be down to my techie incompetence rather than there not being any info actually out there.

Any pointers would be more than welcome.

Dakota Deluxe

Finally, it looks as though Ken McCulloch’s new Dakota Deluxe hotel officially opens on West Regent Street today. We’ll have all the gen at a later date.

Monster steaks are on the menu at Dakota Deluxe.
