Scottish steaks are at the heart of Leith’s new Rib-Aye.

There is so much going on in Edinburgh right now that we are going to split all our news over two days.

We will have more news from the capital’s culinary frontline tomorrow and then, on Friday, the 5pm Dining blog will deliver all its Glasgow food news.

Tuck in.

Dine al fresco

First up, Dine, the luxury brasserie, cocktail lounge and bar has launched its Veuve Clicquot Terrace on Cambridge Street.

Offering al fresco dining and drinks in the sun, Dine – co-owned by one of Scotland’s top chefs, Stuart Muir – opened the new 40-seat patio area earlier this week.

The outdoor Veuve Clicquot Terrace on Cambridge Street is a stone’s throw away from Princes Street and the West End.

Chef Muir, the former executive chef of Harvey Nichols’ Forth Floor Restaurant explains: ‘We always envisioned Dine Edinburgh having a welcoming outdoor space so guests can enjoy some light bites or just some Champagne, wine or cocktails while soaking up the sun.’

There will be dedicated staff outdoors to look after guests with an alfresco dining menu featuring light bites and bar snacks.

As well as the Veuve Clicquot Champagne bar there will be a Kingstar beer bar. Cocktails start at £7.50; Champagne is priced at £12.50 a glass and Kingstar Premium Craft Lager (Wychwood, Southampton) at £4.20 a pint.

Rib-Aye Restaurant

We love a pun and chortled when we learned that Leith’s latest venture is Rib-Aye, a steak and whisky restaurant on Assembly Street.

Like its sister restaurant, Kilted Lobster in Stockbridge, it’s a social enterprise with all profits going to their Cooking up a Storm initiative – the ‘social conscience’ of the restaurant.

An in-house butcher prepares the Scottish beef which is dry aged for 28-45 days in the restaurant’s own dry aging cool room.

If steak is not your thing, Wednesday nights mean unlimited chicken wings at £10 per person.

Fork & Field

We will also wish Fork & Field every success. The latest from PG Taverns, the new Mid-Calder gastropub follows in the footsteps of The Jolly Botanist and McSorleys.

More to come tomorrow.
