Can Glasgow ever have enough bars? Probably not.

The latest to join the throng is The Drugstore Social which is taking shape at 67 Old Dumbarton Road.

Penciled in to open early October, it is a new venture from Kained Holdings, the people behind LebowskisPorter and RyeThe Finnieston et al.

Unconventionally, The Drug Store Social is said to take its inspiration from the nearby Yorkhill Hospital.

Drink to your health

Some sources report that the interior will look like an old fashioned doctor’s office and that the cocktails will be served in vials.

We don’t have full details at this stage but we understand that the food offer is designed to be super healthy and the menu will include a page detailing the health benefits of all the dishes.

Locally sourced wild and foraged ingredients will play a large part in the dishes served and the bar will even be pouring a beer made from foraged mushrooms and lemongrass.

And yes, we did check that it wasn’t April Fool’s Day when we read that.

Organic and biodynamic wines

All of the wines are bio-dynamic, organic and sourced from sustainable vineyards while the beers have local traceability or are organic.

The bar will be serving up cocktails under the headings of Prescriptions, Revivers and Punches.

The owners promise a cocktail list which will be ‘like nothing the people of Glasgow have seen before’.

Just what the doctor ordered.

Session pilsner

In the meantime, drinkers can visit any of Kained Holdings bars and try a pint of their new Apache Pilsner session beer.

Brewed by WEST for Kained Holdings, the 4.2% beer is described as a crisp, citrusy pilsner brewed with extra pale Carapils malt and Willamette, Chinook and Sterling hops.

Graham Suttle, MD at Kained Holdings said: ‘Kained and West go way back and we are delighted with this collaboration. We wanted to smash through all the craft noise, cut the bull and make a beer you can really drink. There was no one else we would have approached on this. It’s local, made in small batches and, above all else, it’s really, really drinkable. The result is epic.’
