Not everyone wants to go toe to toe with a giant turkey over Christmas.

Here are some festive menus with inventive veggie options.

La Rotunda is an Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the iconic Rotunda complex. It is perfectly positioned next to Scotland’s entertainment hub with the SECC, Clyde Auditorium and the Scottish Hydro arena all nearby. Handy if you have panto plans.

The Christmas lunch menu at La Rotunda features dishes such as oven-baked Camembert cheese wrapped in filo pastry with a redcurrant marmalade; a pizza topped with tomato, mozzarella, roast onion, peppers and courgettes plus desserts like the ever popular tiramisu – espresso and liqueur-soaked sponge, layered with mascarpone cream and topped with crushed amoretti biscuits and cocoa powder.

You can book La Rotunda with 5pm Dining.

Scotland’s larder is at the heart of Bread Street Brasserie, part of DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Edinburgh City Centre. Within easy walking distance of the West End and the Old Town, the restaurant is popular for working lunches, romantic dinners, family get-togethers and pre-theatre meals. The dining room is a light-filled, elegant space with eye-catching furniture and the atmosphere is as welcoming as it is relaxed.

The kitchen is particularly skilled at catering for dietary preferences and every menu item is clearly labelled. On the first Wednesday of every month, they run a very popular vegan night.

Their festive dinner menu includes dishes such as tempura curried cauliflower on cauliflower purée with an apricot and tomato chutney; char grilled vegetables on puff pastry with tomato salsa and goat’s cheese plus desserts like the dark chocolate and orange mousse with toasted walnut praline.
