Monterey Jack's
Burgers form the backbone of the menu at Monterey Jack’s. Pic: [restaurant Facebook][1].

Monterey Jack’s is planning to ride the burger wave with a new branch in Glasgow’s West End.

To be honest, we thought that Glasgow had maybe reached peak burger. These days, it seems to be pizza which is driving everyone wild.

Of course, this is a daft way to look at it. Burgers may not be quite as achingly fashionable as they were a few years ago.

However, having been around for more than a century, they are hardly likely to fall from favour any time soon.

Monterey Jack’s around Scotland

Monterey Jack’s already has branches in Perth, Dunblane and Stirling with a fourth scheduled to open in Lerwick this Friday.

They have yet to release a launch date for the Glasgow branch but we can tell you that it will open on Byres Road at Partick Bridge Street.

With more than thirty varieties of burger on the menu, Monterey Jack’s is very much a burger joint.

They also serve pizza, nachos, ribs, Philly steak sandwiches, enchiladas… you get the idea.

We’ll bring you more info when we get it.

If your burger hunger has yet to be sated, you may be interested in a new book being published by Phaidon in June.

The World is your Burger

The World is Your Burger: A Cultural History is written by David Michaels.

It is a collection of burger-themed essays, recipes and never-before-seen photographs.

The book explores the history of household names like McDonald’s, White Castle and Burger King. Contemporary market leaders like Five Guys, Shake Shack and Byron also come under scrutiny.

Along the way, he looks at how joints like In-N-Out Burger have achieved cult status and star chefs such as Wolfgang Puck and Daniel Boulud have brought the burger into the world of fine dining.

The World is Your Burger also includes twelve burger recipes – from truffled relish mayonnaise and perfect egg burger to the spicy beef short rib bao burger – from the world’s leading chefs and iconic brands.

The recipes sit alongside tasting notes and expert guides to selecting and preparing the elements that make up the perfect burger.

It seems as though the burger fad still has a long way to run.
