The Verve Grill at The Village Hotel in Glasgow has got a brand new menu for 5pmers to get their teeth into.
Anyone who’s been before knows that not only is it perfectly placed for any Hydro gigs, its stylish decor, friendly service and huge portions make it a worthwhile venue for a meal out at any time.
Their new menu travels the world for inspiration as well as seeing classic dishes executed well. Sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup sits alongside the classic prawn cocktail on the starters.
On the mains, dishes like fillet steak stroganoff and garlic and rosemary roast rump of lamb with minted pea puree, baby vegetables and port jus are next to tandoori prawn curry with roasted okra, lim pickle, mini popadoms and minted yoghurt and spicy chicken rigatoni chicken breast with garlic, crushed chillies and peas in a spicy Rosa sauce.
The grill of the restaurant’s name sake is available for burgers and steaks.
For those counting the calories, the new menu has a special section featuring three dishes under 500 calories.
Pick from: Black pepper crusted fillet steak in an Asian broth with bok choi, Chinese cabbage, chillies and spring onion topped with toasted sesame seeds (261 calories); teriyaki salmon with a warm black rice salad (419 calories) and herb marinated chargrilled chicken breast with a warm salad of spinach, rocket and gem leaves, tomatoes, red onion and salsa verde dressing (370 calories).

1. Chicken tenders starter
Lightly breaded chicken breast strips with fresh chillies and spring onions, served with a sweet chilli dip.
2. Calamari rings starter
Lightly breaded calamari topped with fresh red chillies and spring onions, served with garlic mayo dip.
3. Roasted double chicken breast
Lemon and thyme roasted double chicken breast, balsamic roasted vine tomatoes with a sage onion stuffing and a garlic aioli sauce. Served with a side of your choice (we went for steamed broccoli finished with chilli parmesan).
4. Village 1/2 pound burger
A prime beef burger loaded with cheese and bacon served with rustic chips and kale slaw.
5. Cheesecake dessert
Deconstructed lemon cheesecake with a crisp biscuit base and fresh raspberry compote.
6. Sticky toffee pudding
Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.
