Epoch is a new restaurant which has just launched in Princes Square.

So we were going to tell you about ‘Babs, the new gourmet kebab place on West Nile Street, and we will. Just not today.

Instead, this blog is all about Epoch which opened in Princes Square at the weekend.

Run by a husband and wife team, it’s been a good few months in the pipeline but launched officially on Saturday.

Kerry and Alistair Prow are the driving force behind the business. They originally met back in 2006 when both worked in Princes Square’s Zinc restaurant.

Epoch art work

Epoch is on the bottom floor of the centre and looks out onto the courtyard. The most striking visual feature is the large collage mural on the back wall. It is by the Scottish artist Charlie Anderson.

The eclectic menu is very flexible. The food offer ranges from anchovies on toast to pork croquettes with green yoghurt. There are tapas portions, sharing platters, sides and larger portions such as the Donald Russell picanha steak, served with chimichurri.

A separate children’s menu offers dishes such as sliders with fries, mussels in a cream sauce and pasta.

Epoch tasting menu

Interestingly for such an informal restaurant and menu, there is a £25 six course tasting menu which can be matched with paired wines for an additional £25.

The extensive drinks menu – with several cocktails – suggests that the Prows expect Epoch to be as popular with people popping in for a drink as diners.

Kerry Prow said: ‘Coming back to Princes Square, where it all started for us, is the most exciting moment of our careers so far. Epoch is a mix of classic Princes Square on the terrace overlooking the courtyard, offset with a vibrant modern twist inside the restaurant. Our menu is filled with delicious sharing dishes, a tempting cocktail list and a well-balanced wine list with top notch service at the centre of it all. It will be children friendly too because we’ve got two kids of our own and they like to eat out just as much as we do.’
