new restaurants in Glasgow
New restaurants in Glasgow are always being added to 5pm Dining. The Mallard on Great Western Road joined recently.

There are always new Glasgow restaurants on 5pm Dining. The Mallard is one of the latest.

The gastro and cocktail venue has been making friends on Great Western Road since it launched back in January.

Owned by the same people who have The Drake on Lynedoch Street, it is a handsome but relaxed neighbourhood bar.

It’s been cleverly designed. Chunky wooden furniture, Harris tweed and a gorgeous copper-topped bar walk a well balanced line between smart and rustic.

The outside tables are always a hit when the sun comes out to play.

Go East to feats

As well as a range of stone-baked, Neapolitan-style pizza, The Mallard offers an appetising selection of dishes which have their roots in the Middle East and the countries dotted around the Mediterranean.

Lamb tagine, chickpea fattoush salad and Andalucian fish stew are all typical. There is also a range of burgers. Choose between Scotch beef, harissa chicken and falafel.

A separate brunch menu provides options such as Thai eggs and Middle Eastern mezze.

If the previous night was longer and more lively than you might have expected then the Full Levantine breakfast should help.

Tuck into merguez sausage, chorizo, morcilla, basra beans, falafel, wok egg, roast mushroom, confit tomato, shashouka ratatouille and flatbread.
