West End Beer Festival
Fyne Ales are among the Scottish brewers at the West End Beer Festival.

Thirsty work, this summer business. Happily, the third West End Beer Festival can help drouthy Glaswegians avoid a dry patch.

Taking place at Café Source Too in Hillhead Sports Club, the West End Beer Festival is running on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd July.

Many of Scotland’s top craft brewers will be pouring at the festival. Alechemy, Fallen, Fyne Ales, Tryst, Jaw Brew and WEST have all confirmed that they will be in action.

West End Beer Festival: three sessions

There will be three sessions over the two days. The Friday and Saturday evening sessions are over 18s only and run to midnight.

From noon to 4.30pm on the Saturday, there is a family-friendly session. Children are welcome and don’t need a ticket.

Online tickets are £9 which includes entry and a commemorative festival glass.

Naturally, live music and lots of food will play a large part in the day.

Of course, there is no reason not to stop by Café Source Too before Friday 21st July.

More than 700 5pm dining users have given the venue a whopping combined rating of 4.4/5.

Scottish producers

The chefs like to make the most of Scottish produce and use ingredients such as mussels from the West Coast, brie from Howgate, and oatcakes from Arran.

Popular starters include the spiced Ramsay of Carluke Haggis with caramelised fig and an onion filo wrap or the ham hough and wild boar bruschetta with sun-dried tomato, rocket and smoked Arran cheddar.

Main courses might be smoked pork loin served with a black pudding and potato scone or the beer-battered fish ‘n’ chips.

These diners’ comments are typical:

‘Came here to celebrate my son’s first birthday. Scottish inspired food served by friendly staff, as usual. Always a treat.’

‘Great family food. Good location, nice relaxing atmosphere. Good choice of food on the pre-theatre menu plus some tasty specials.’
