Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience
Mind your table manners. Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience is back in Edinburgh.

If you like classic Seventies sitcoms, food and immersive theatre, then you will love Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience.

An affectionate homage to the BBC TV series Fawlty Towers, it is a live comedy show which has been a global hit for the last twenty years.

For the last ten years, it has been coming to Edinburgh in August and we’re pretty sure that it has sold out pretty much every year.

The show takes place in a dining room with the audience members playing the role of diners.

While guests tuck into their three courses, Basil, Sybil and the hapless Manuel – you may know him, he’s from Barcelona – cause chaos.

Siberian hamster

In another life, this 5pm Dining blogger used to write comedy reviews for the papers. When I saw the show, a few years ago, it was packing in the audiences.

And rightly so. Everyone was in stitches at Basil’s increasingly apoplectic outbursts, Sybil’s withering put-downs and Manuel’s endearing incompetence.

If memory serves, a long tailed Siberian hamster may have been involved.

The show is heavily improvised so no two shows are the same. This is a neat move that keeps it fresh for the actors but also means that audiences can come back and be sure of seeing a subtly different performance.

As well as a full run of Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience, the company is celebrating its tenth anniversary at Edinburgh Fringe with a limited run of one off anniversary shows.
