Since Chaophraya took over the iconic Townhouse building in Buchanan Street, it has firmly established itself as one of the most luxurious dining experiences in the city. A marble floored hallway dotted with golden buddhas leads to the spectacular main dining room, a vast space which includes gold chandeliers, soaring ceilings covered in ornate cornicing, balconies, and curved leather banquettes. Their Thai food more than matches their surroundings, and their Festive Banquet Menus include Thai green turkey curry simmered in coconut milk with butternut squash, courgette & garnished with sweet basil & chillies, and duck stuffed with chicken fried and served with pak choi topped with a mango sauce.

Porter & Rye

Part of the Finnieston strip of Argyle Street, Porter & Rye is one of the hip restaurants which have been responsible for the area’s culinary reputation over the last few years. Intimate and flatteringly dimly lit, it has a stylish decor that is half old school Manhattan steak house and half post-industrial warehouse. Porter & Rye’s main focus is steak, and their Christmas menu includes Gaindykehead farm belted Galloway beef, dry aged for 50 days and served with your choice of sauce and side in the cut of either fillet, sirloin, rump or bavette. The veggie main course option is chesnut mushroom wellington with braised red cabbage and sage sauce. Desserts include the blackberry panna cotta with cème fraiche ice cream and the mascarpone cheesecake with chocolate sponge, praline, pomegranate and caramel glass.
