For Glasgow’s west-enders, Cottiers is a beloved institution and the recent launch of their new restaurant, Leiper’s Attic, has brought Scotland’s natural lader to their doorstep.

The restaurant’s a la carte menu is full of hearty Scottish dishes that are very seasonal and use the best local meat and vegetables.

The menu truly gives you a taste of the season and combined with the restaurant’s situation, in the attic of a former church, it’s a fantastic winter restaurant.

The 5pm blog took a trip to the bistro style restaurant and here are our top six choice dishes from its delicious a la carte menu.


1. Scallops


From the starter options, try the hand dived scallops which come with lemon, whisky, baby capers and sea herbs.

For added drama you can get an optional Bowmore mist sprayed on the dish for an extra whisky flourish.

2. Pigeon breast


Another starter to try is the pigeon breast which comes with a smattering of puy lentils, red cabbage, smoked bacon and blackberries – Scotland on a plate!

3. Fillet Steak


Our third choice is from the restaurant’s grill section. All the beef in Leiper’s Attic is aged for 28 days within the restaurant.

We opted for the 230g fillet steak with a side of chips and a whisky and arran sauce.

4. Venison


The roasted venison loin from the main course selection is a significant portion and comes with butternut squash, kale, celery and wild mushrooms and a honey and five spice sauce.

5. Sticky toffee pudding


If you can fit dessert in, then try the sticky toffee pudding. It comes with a date and ginger purée and salted caramel parfait.

6. Dark chocolate ganache


If you’re more of a chocolate fiend then the dark chocolate ganache is for you.

It comes with a blackberry sorbet, chocolate soil and a toasted hazelnut tuille.
