New restaurants in Glasgow and beyond? Step this way…

First up, Esushi has opened on Byres Road. The premises used to house Amber Chinese restaurant.

As the name implies, it is a Japanese restaurant serving sushi, sashimi, noodle dishes and teriyaki options.

Right now, we could really go a plate of the spider maki made with fried soft shell crab.

The place looks great. The lighting is dim and carved screens separate off the different areas of the dining room.

Looks ideal for a date night.

New restaurants in Glasgow: Van Winkle

Moving from the West End to the East End, we have another addition to our new restaurants in Glasgow file.

Van Winkle has just opened on the Gallowgate.

As per our previous blog, it specialises in bourbon, burgers, BBQ and pizza.

We would go for the beer-battered cauliflower bites followed by the bourbon BBQ brisket.

All their meat is sourced locally and smoked over bourbon woodchips before being finished on the grill.

Van Winkle is said to have the largest selection of bourbon in Glasgow.

We have no idea if this is true but would be more than happy to spend a couple of nights investigating the truth of the matter.

Tipsy Cow launches in Airdrie

A couple of weeks back, we blogged about The Tipsy Cow, a new Airdrie restaurant which was on the verge of opening.

They launched officially last week and are now going great guns on Alexander Street.

Back in the day, the premises housed The Black Bull Inn. The Tipsy Cow updates the bovine theme and aims to provide a little city centre glam.

The brasserie menu is interesting.

In particular, the starters look very intriguing. Fancy a crayfish tart with poached egg and Hollandaise? Or smoked Barbary duck with an orange and raspberry salad and a maple and poppy seed dressing?

The main courses include options such as the venison and haggis Wellington with wild mushroom skirlie and port jus.

A seafood option might be the roast monkfish with ginger ribbon veg and a spiced mussel broth.

There is also a selection of steaks including two sharing steaks: a cote de boeuf and a tomahawk.

Keep checking back to the 5pm Dining blog and we’ll bring you all the latest in new restaurants in Glasgow and beyond.
