Need some ginspiration for the weekend? The fifth Juniper Festival is at Summerhall in Edinburgh from today.

You don't need to be a genius to recognise that gin's popularity has exploded over the last few years.

And Martin Duffy has surfed the gin wave ever since 2014 when he launched the first ever Juniper Festival at Summerhall.

This year, the festival director has stirred things up with the launch of its Makers & Mixers themes.

A new feature is the Distillers' Room. Armed with a bottle of gin, more than twenty gin distillers from around the world will mingle with guests. The distillers will be hand-pouring samples and offering an unmissable opportunity for gin enthusiasts to get to grips with their favourite brands and the people behind them.

Meet the makers

Martin, Director of Edinburgh-based drinks and events consultancy Solid Liquids, commented: 'We’ve always been proud to offer guests the opportunity to meet the people responsible for making the products. This year we’re taking that one step further with a chance to meet the makers. No brand reps, no bartenders, just distillers.'

And that’s not all. This year, the festival has pulled together Scotland’s finest creative mixologists with a dynamic variety of hand-picked gin brands. The mixologists have been charged with concocting the most imaginative serves for guests to sample. Naturally, full-sized cocktails are also available to buy.

At the heart of it all, visitors to the festival are invited to enjoy an array of gin expressions from around Scotland, the UK and the rest of the world. There will also be informative talks and master classes from brands and leading authorities in a program of 30 minute sessions.

Add in music, entertainment, Scottish street food and craft stalls and we are forecasting a rather jolly weekend.

The Juniper Festival will take place at Summerhall, Edinburgh. Tickets cost £22.50 and include a token for a gin & tonic on arrival.
