afternoon tea The Salon at The Principal Blythswood Square has sprinkled magic dust over its cocktail list in honour of a certain boy wizard...

Afternoon tea is often enchanting but The Principal Blythswood Square has gone one step further with its new Season of Spells offering.

As all Harry Potter fans know, today (31st July) is the birthday of the world’s most famous young wizard.

To celebrate, The Salon at The Principal Blythswood Square has put a spell on afternoon tea and added a spot of magic to its cocktail list.

Executive head chef Zoltan Szabo has created a special afternoon tea that includes red velvet sponge and a cherry chocolate sorcerer’s hat; milk chocolate mousse with a chocolate frog; honey-comb sponge and alchemists’ bon bons plus bewitched bubblegum-flavoured macaron.

Naturally, it is served with a selection of supernatural scones, preserves, clotted cream and brewed teas.

Little wizards can also indulge in their own version complete with Blythswood Butterbeer and delicate sandwiches.

If you would like to raise a glass to Harry’s birthday and celebrate all that’s mystical with specially contrived concoctions, a new cocktail menu is also bound to have you bubbling.

Forget about goblets of fire. We're talking Love Potions mixed with lemon, raspberry, crème de framboise and egg white soda.

Or you could wave your wand and magic up a Tropical Tincture - a potent rum cocktail with spiced apple, brown sugar and butter.

While details have yet to be unveiled, we hear rumours that the Season of Spells offering will be complemented by magical film screenings in the five star hotel's Cinema Club.

The Enchanted Afternoon Tea package is available from Tuesday 31 July until Sunday 12 August July and is priced at £29 per person and £12.95 for little wizards aged 12 years and under.

If you're the sort of muggle (is this right? Pottermania passed me by) who has yet to come under the spell of JK Rowling's books, then the charm of a Potter-themed afternoon tea may be lost on you.

In which case, you may be interested on this Big Deal for afternoon tea for two at The Salon. If you want to push the boat out, you can upgrade to the Champagne afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea for two is £29 with the Big Deal while the Champagne option for two is £39.
