Aiming to open on Friday at noon, Embargo has set up shop in the Byres Road premises formerly occupied by Gumbo.

It promises 'Pacific Cocktails, market fresh small plates, Australasian wines, craft beer and awesome vibes from our DJ from 6pm!!'

It also promises that Embargo will be where 'health meets indulgence'. The main pic above was filched from their Facebook page so it seems safe to assume that stuffed bao will be putting in an appearance.

More info as we get it.

**Quick update at 10.35 on Wed 28th. Embargo have posted their food menu. Ramen, salt and chilli squid, spiced duck cottage pie and Thai-fried, lime cod tacos are among the items on offer.**

Sammy's set for Southside

Pipping them to the post in terms of their opening day is Sammy's.

Lebowski's South said 'Adios' on Sunday and Sammy's will open on the Nithsdale Road site tomorrow.

Readers with long memories may recall that Sammy Dow's used to be at number 69 for many a year.

At the time of writing, the day-to-day menus have yet to be released but Sammy's Christmas menu starters include curried parsnip, lentil and apple soup; pigs in blankets on a carrot and honey purée plus a Stilton, roast pear and caramelised fig salad.

As well as our old friend turkey, main course options include a baked salmon parcel with Asian veg and slow roast pork belly.

Bottoms up at Ernest and Co.

Sashaying back into the city centre, we note that the former Strata premises on Queen Street have become Ernest and Co. - a cocktail bar with table service.

Ernest Hemingway and many other writers seem to feature heavily in their marketing and indeed their cocktail menu which is inspired by authors and their books.

If their Facebook is anything to go by then the literary theme continues with the interior decor - some of the walls seem to be papered with pages from books.

I don't know if A.A. Milne or Rudyard Kipling were notorious topers but Hemingway certainly enjoyed a livener or two.

As did Hunter S. Thompson and F. Scott Fitzgerald - two more bibulous writers who feature in the cocktail menu.

Make ours a Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde which is, apparently, smooth, peachy and smoky.

Each cocktail in the menu is accompanied by a quote from the book. The Jekyll and Hyde quote will have a certain appeal to anyone who has had one too many: 'If I am the chief of sinners, I am the chief of sufferers also.'

Quite.

Keys to Lock 27 ready to rock

Last but not least, word has it that Lock 27 in Anniesland is about to enjoy a fresh lease of life.

The Crow Road bar is pencilled in for a relaunch on Friday 7th October.

What the new place will offer has yet to be released but it has been stripped down to the walls before a refit.

While the bar opens in a little over a week, the kitchen is hanging fire until January.

More news as we get it.
