As per the last couple of years, the biggest splash will surround new openings on or around St Andrew Square in Edinburgh.

Later this year, Tattu Chinese restaurant will open in The Registers on the south-east corner of St Andrew Square.

Specialising in dim sum, Tattu is billed as 'an award-winning, unique dining experience'.

The Edinburgh Tattu will be the first in Scotland but the fourth branch in the group. The Leeds and Manchester Tattu outlets will be joined by a new branch in Birmingham later this month.

The Edinburgh Tattu is pencilled in to open in spring.

If the interior design is anything like the existing branches then the Edinburgh Tattu will look ravishing. The pic above is from their Facebook page.

New Malmaison

Sticking with St Andrew Square, Malmaison is to open a second Edinburgh branch in Buchan House.

The boutique hotel chain launched in Leith in 1994 and the original branch is still going strong on Tower Place.

The new 72 room hotel in the city centre will have a Chez Mal Bar and Brasserie.

Finally, at least as far as our St Andrew Square news goes, Gleneagles are opening an outpost in the former Bank of Scotland building on the square.

Ennismore, the company that owns Gleneagles, plans to open a club hotel with whisky bars and a food offering that celebrates Scotland's natural larder.

A five minute walk from St Andrew Square will take you to the newly launched Kitty O'Shea's bar on Frederick Street.

Having opened their doors at the end of December, the Irish bar is aiming to draw in the customers with live music, sport, pub grub and, of course, lots and lots of Guinness.

Cold Town House

Last but not least, keep an eye out for Cold Town House which is taking shape in the former Robertson Memorial Mission Church on the Grassmarket.

The latest venture from the Signature Pub Group will feature a Cold Town Brewery; a pizza and Prosecco floor plus a roof terrace. Neapolitan-style pizza are promised.

The company has been advertising for staff with a launch pencilled in for the end of January.

We'll be back tomorrow with the lowdown on Philly's - a new bar, cafe and restaurant which opened today at Edinburgh Park.
