Way back in January, we mentioned that Glasgow's long-awaited branch of The Ivy was pencilled in to open on Buchanan Street in early 2019.

So we're not going to go back over that again.

Instead, we will say that we are looking forward to the opening of a new branch of El Perro Negro this spring.

The much lauded burger-slingers are expanding out from their tiny base on Argyle Street and launching in Woodlands.

There is no exact date at present but a May launch has been mentioned. After a few years of doing pop-ups and guest slots, the first permanent El Perro opened just under a year ago.

El Perro Negro has already got off to a flying start this year. Last week, they scooped the top prize at The National Burger Awards 2019 Grand Final in London.

The winning burger was the Top Dog (main pic from Facebook). For £10.50 you can taste the nation's best burger on Argyle Street.

All of their patties are made with meat from small farms which raise their cattle naturally without using growth hormones.

The Top Dog patty is topped with bone marrow and Roquefort butter, double bacon, caramelised onions and black truffle mayonnaise.

New plans from Paesano people

Also keen to expand are the people behind the popular Paesano Neapolitan pizza restaurants.

The parent company has submitted plans for a new restaurant in the ground floor and basement of The Lighthouse Building on the corner of Mitchell Lane and Mitchell Street.

Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the building was originally home to the Glasgow Herald.

Should planning go through, the new restaurant will specialise in freshly made pasta. An open plan kitchen means that customers will be able to watch the kitchen team at work.

The mooted name for the new place is Sugo. If it goes ahead, it will join the original Paesano on Miller Street and the second branch which opened on Great Western Road.

Sixth venue for Cawley

Finally, we note that Cawley Hotels and Restaurants are advertising for staff for their sixth venue.

We know little about the new venture except that it will be in Central Scotland but we'll post more info as we get it.

Cawley currently operates Duck Bay Hotel, House of Darrach, Boardwalk, Coast and The Loch House.
