The 5pm Food blog has been busy with news and events from Edinburgh of late but there's plenty on our plates in Glasgow.

Gazing into our crystal ball reveals that The Locale is gearing up to open on the former Liberté site on North Street.

A firm opening date has yet to be announced but burgers and craft beers look set to be big selling points at the new venture.

Billed as a bar, diner and beer yard, the bar's promo content features 'carefully curated craft beers'; free-range fried chicken; sweet and savoury brunches; Aberdeen Angus beef burgers plus classic and contemporary cocktails.

We are most excited about the promise of 'bastardised Basque beer snacks' or pintxos. Anything that brings a little taste of San Sebastian's pintxo bars to Glasgow gets our vote.

The blog will return to The Locale when we get more news about an opening date.

Stack & Still doubles down

Also appearing on the horizon is a second branch of Stack & Still.

With over a million variations on pancakes plus toppings - not to mention a self serve bar with sixteen taps - the original on George Street has proved hugely popular since opening in October last year.

Word has it that they have sold more than half a million pancakes. Main pic is from Stack & Still's Facebook.

Pencilled in for a July opening, the new, 185 seat branch will be set over two levels in the Winter Garden at Silverburn.

Is Nico Glasgow's busiest chef?

Finally, we bring you the latest news from the seemingly unstoppable stable of restaurants by Nico Simeone.

The Six by Nico restaurants - which serve an ever changing diet of themed six-course tasting menus - have proved a massive hit since launching in Glasgow in 2017.

So much so that there are now branches in Edinburgh, Belfast and, come July, a fourth Six by Nico will open in the former Roc & Rye site in Manchester's Spring Gardens.

The new Six by Nico will join a portfolio which also includes 111 by Nico in Glasgow's West End and The Hebridean.

Inspired by the natural larder of the West Coast, the latter recently replaced Public House by Nico on Great Western Road.

We'll be back tomorrow with Edinburgh bar and restaurant news.
