At the Apex Grassmarket Hotel, the kitchen is taking centre stage with what it bills as Edinburgh's largest fish supper.

Weighing in at a whopping three times the size of a standard fish supper, the British favourite will include battered fish, chips, tartar sauce, minty mushy peas, pickled fennel, lemon and a pint or glass of house wine, all for £20.

Anyone who finishes the Jaws-sized fish will be entered in a monthly prize draw for a complimentary meal for two at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel. One imagines they might not be asking about the seafood options.

Successful challengers will also be given various souvenirs of their gastric adventure. As well as a miniature dram of whisky and a collapsible copper cup from which to sip the dram, they will be given a crown.

And presumably directions to the nearest Rennies stockist.

Sing for your fish supper

Alan Taylor, GM at Apex Grassmarket, said: 'The fish supper is a classic dish and a firm favourite for many across the country, including myself. We have taken the dish to a new level with the addition of Edinburgh’s biggest fish supper - The King of the Sea Supper -  which I’m sure our diners will be eager to taste and attempt to finish!'

Polishing his puns to a gleam, Alan continued, 'Britain is increasingly a nation of foodies who delight in sharing their gastronomic finds across their social channels and I’ve no doubt this dish will catch their attention and net some likes.'

Edinburgh’s biggest fish supper will be on sale from Friday 2nd August.

Plus, with the Fringe set to kick off on the first of August, Apex Grassmarket are giving customers the chance to win a free King of the Sea supper by singing for their dinner.

Throughout the festival, customers can apply to provide guests of the hotel with their own musical performance in the main restaurant.

Each day a winner will be chosen and rewarded with Edinburgh's largest fish supper.

If a whopper of a fish supper doesn't float your boat, the Metro Brasserie at the hotel has plenty of other dishes.

You can book in via 5pm Dining.
