Since relaunching, the blog has cast an eye over a few recently opened restaurants and bars in Glasgow and Edinburgh. In this post, we're going to shine the spotlight on three new or soon-to-launch places that are outwith the main city centres.

Like most restaurants and bars, they have had to be nimble and change their plans to suit changing circumstances.

First up, we have 30 Main, a new bar and restaurant at, you guessed it, 30 Main Street in Kilmaurs, just outside Kilmarnock.

They opened in mid-Feb, closed for THE THING, and then re-opened in July.

They currently operate with a reduced menu but it is packed with crowd-pleasers. As well as a selection of hot dogs, burgers and pizza, there are main courses such as mac 'n' cheese, steak pie, fajita nachos and a classic fish supper.

Several special offers run from Monday to Thursday. For example, guests can tuck into 2-4-1 burgers on Wednesday nights.

Our eye was caught by cocktails served by the jug. Choose between liquid delights like a Pornstar Martini, Elderflower Collins or Strawberry Daiquiri.

The plans for live music, open mic nights and karaoke may be on hold at the moment but the beer garden and its beach huts (main pic from Facebook) are proving popular.

The Drawing Room

At Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, The Drawing Room was working towards an April launch when everything went up in the air.

Undeterred, they soldiered on, adapted, opened their outdoor space and then started taking indoor bookings in late July.

It is billed as a neighbourhood cafe, bar and gallery with regular exhibitions of work by Scottish artists.

Like many a business feeling its way at the moment, the opening hours and menus update regularly.

Recent dishes that grabbed our attention include slow cooked, pulled pork flatbreads; strawberry tarts topped with Prosecco cream and veg, meat and cheese platters.

Brunch is a speciality so look out for dishes such as French toast with maple syrup and bacon; huevos rancheros with crushed black beans and crumbled feta plus locally sourced chanterelles mushrooms tossed in garlic butter and served on toast.

Cocktails, beers and wines will stop anyone going drouthy.

BeerCafe for Ayr

Last but not least on the newbie front, we see that the BeerCafé is planning an October launch in Ayr.

We think it is the same team as the BeerCafé in Glasgow's Merchant City but are happy to be corrected. More news when we get it.

Big Deal on paella for 2 in Hamilton

Sticking with the out of town theme, we have a tasty Big Deal with Sangria Restaurant in Hamilton. Choose between paella and a bottle of wine for two at £19 or go for six tapas, bread, dessert and a bottle of wine for two to share at £29.
