Would you pay £630 for a steak? Even if it was a 'giant tomahawk' steak?

The eye-watering price of a meal at the new Nusr-Et Steakhouse in London's Knightsbridge has been attracting headlines ever since a bill from the restaurant was published on Twitter.

As well as the £630 steak, the eight guests splashed out on Coca Colas at £9 a pop, £11 Red Bulls, £12 for sweetcorn and £10 for fries. Although, to be fair, we should point out that the latter were 'herb-crusted'.

On a similar note, TV Chef Tom Kerridge has recently been taking some flak for charging £87 for steak and chips at his Hand and Flower pub. Amusingly, when the Nusr-Et headlines started appearing, Kerridge tweeted 'Salt Bae steak: £630. Some peace and quiet: priceless'.

Overcooked?

Nusr-Et Steakhouse is the brainchild of the Nusret Gökçe, a Turkish chef who earned the nickname Salt Bae on account of his theatrical seasoning technique.

As well as his Knightsbridge restaurant, Mr Gökçe has restaurants in New York, Beverly Hills and, of course, Dubai. Fans of his food are said to include David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio and Naomi Campbell.

One imagines that Beckham, Di Caprio and Campbell would not be hugely worried at receiving a Salt Bae-sized bill but us mere mortals might think twice before popping into the Nusr-Et Steakhouse for a quick bite to eat. To put the prices into some context, the seven-course tasting menu at Scotland's Restaurant Andrew Fairlie, a two Michelin star joint, is yours for a mere £155. And they only charge £3 for a Coke.
