We still have some way to go before we reach The Good Life levels of self sufficiency but our fungi-growing experiment is going well. Five days after activating our mini-mushroom farm, the first woodland oysters have sprouted surprisingly quickly.

I’m beginning to feel a certain parental pride towards Woody, my fungi. Each morning, I check ’em, give them a gentle pat on the head and tell them that they are good boys. Maybe giving them a name was a mistake although I suspect that it won’t stop me eating the first batch at the weekend.
