January 2010

Nick Nairn opened the Kailyard

For the third year in a row, a Scottish chip shop won the UK Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition, organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood.

The Atlantic Fast Food chippy in Coatbridge, Glasgow scooped first place at this year’s competition.

The Queen of Sheba Ethiopian restaurant opened in Glasgow. According to Roy Beer’s guide to Glasgow dining, it has, unfortunately, already shuffled off this mortal coil.

For the second year running, the Michelin Guide to the UK was leaked a week early. The newly annointed Kinloch Lodge on Skye, Edinburgh’s 21212 and The Peat Inn in Fife were among the restaurants celebrating a record haul of Scottish Michelin stars.

Abstract in Edinburgh closed.

Nick Nairn’s Kailyard restaurant opened at the Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane Hydro.

The Scottish Restaurant Awards unveiled their winners.

A Vindaloo Against Violence campaign is launched in Australia.

Brasserie Gerard opens in Glasgow.

Yo Sushi opens in Harvey Nicks Edinburgh.

David Ramsden’s Seadogs launches in Edinburgh.

The much talked about Biadh at MacSorleys Music Bar in Glasgow joins 5pm.

Two Fat Ladies on Dumbarton Road celebrates its 21st birthday.

L’Escargot Bleu in Edinburgh hits the headlines for putting horsemeat on the menu.

The G1 Group’s flagship Edinburgh venue, The Ghillie Dhu, opens in Edinburgh. The occasion is marked with an unusual ceilidh.
