Feeling chilli?

Sanjay Majhu: a firm believer that a Mum's cooking is best

As you may have noticed, it’s Baltic out there. The snowman in my drying green is shivering and even the penguins at Edinburgh Zoo are looking a little parky.

You know what the solution is? A gum-tingling curry. I’m all for delicate spicing and the carefully planned interplay of exotic herbs dancing over my tastebuds but, right now, what I really, really want is something that will take the roof off my mouth and kickstart my internal combustion.

Naturally, 5pm makes it a piece of cake to browse the Indian restaurants in your area and see what 5pm deals they are currently offering. Just click here.

In more specific curry news, Green Chilli is a new Indian restaurant which opens tomorrow on the former site of Tapas International on Glasgow’s Argyle Street.

It’s part of the Harlequin Group and it’s aiming to be a little different from most High Street Indian restaurants.

I haven’t seen a menu but the idea is that rather than serve all the usual Anglo-Indian favourites, Green Chilli will serve the sort of food that you would be offered if invited to an Indian family’s house for dinner.

It’s the brainchild of Harlequin CEO Sanjay Majhu who has collected the recipes for the menu from his Mum and aunties. I suspect that Sanjay might be on to something with this. It is hard to imagine the UK falling out of love with chicken tikka massala but there is almost certainly space for something more authentic.
