There have been some interesting new restaurant openings over the last few weeks.

Leading the pack in terms of sheer exoticism is the Harajuku Kitchen, a Japanese bistro which has launched in the Kildonan Lodge Hotel on Edinburgh’s south side.

Named after a trendy Tokyo district, it is run by Chef Kaori who comes from a long line of Japanese chefs and restaurateurs.

The food is a sort of fusion of Japanese and Scottish.

The current sample menu lists California sushi rolls, beef teriyaki and haggis balls served with a sweet chilli dip.

Another Edinburgh newcomer is Loudons, a cafe/bakery which opened this morning on Lochrin Square.

Apparently, the owner used to manage Peter’s Yard, the popular Swedish bakery in the Quartermile development.
