No new stars for Scotland

The 2011 Michelin Guide has just announced its results and, while Nathan Outlaw at Rock in Cornwall and Hélène Darroze at The Connaught in London both moved up to two stars, there has not been much change in Scotland.

With the exception of the Summer Isles hotel in Achiltibuie which lost its star, all the existing Scottish stars have been maintained and no-one has gained any new ones.

Castle Terrace, the new Edinburgh venture from Tom Kitchin’s stable, has been marked out as a ‘rising star’ which means that if they continue along their present path then they may well be awarded a star in the future.

Newly annointed as a Bib Gourmand destination, Osso in Peebles joins The Dogs in Edinburgh, the Sorn Inn, Ayrshire and The Kilberry Inn in Argyll. The Bib Gourmand award means that Michelin reckon Osso offers good food at moderate prices.

Commenting on the 2011 guide, Editor in Chief Rebecca Burr said: ‘This centenary edition underlines the UK’s greatest strength which is the rich diversity and variety of its restaurants. The country embraces all kinds of restaurants and every type of cuisine and the public’s appetite shows no signs of abating.

‘There is no doubt that 2010 was a difficult year but those hotels and restaurants that represented value for money, at whatever price, were the ones who were best placed to weather the storm. We found 12 new one star establishments and awarded 26 new Bib Gourmands which readers particularly appreciate for their moderate prices.’
