Hot dog hunger

A remarkably untroubled looking Joey Chestnut accepts the 2010 trophy after scoffing 68 hot dogs in ten minutes

If it’s the 4th of July then it must be time for the annual hot dog eating competition at Nathan’s Famous Restaurant in Coney Island, Brooklyn.

After rigourous heats taking place all over the States, a crack squad of hot dog scoffers have assembled in New York city today to see who will be crowned the fastest gob in the land.

Joey Chestnut of San Jose, CA holds the world record for eating 68 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and Buns in ten minutes. Mr Chestnut has won the title for the last four years and is seeking to make it five in a row today.

Us sensible people at 5pm would not recommend that you try to emulate Mr Chestnut’s gastronomic feats. However, if you fancy celebrating the 4th of July then you can click through here to browse 5pm member restaurants by cuisine. From pizza to Californian, the choice is yours.
