Lola Lo gets tiki with it

Beachcomber bar at Lola Lo

Tiki bar Lola Lo opens to the public in Edinburgh this weekend. Unlikely as it may seem that a little bit of Polynesia should wind up in the strait-laced capital, the late night bar looks to be a hit, especially with the city’s many students.

Housed in the former Po Na Na, it boasts over thirty cocktails ranging from classics like the Mojito and Zombie to house specials like the Lola Lo Fog Cutter, a potent mix of gin, cognac, rum, sweet sherry, orange juice, lemon juice and orgeat sugar.

Also likely to be popular are the sharing cocktails which come in large carved bowls. If you can still pronounce it after midnight then the Daddy Digga Digga Doo, a lively combo of gin, vodka, tequila and rum mixed with lemon juice and cola, should ensure that your night goes with a bang.

Edinburgh has lagged behind Glasgow in this respect which already has two tiki bars: The Tiki Bar and Kitsch Inn on Bath Street and Kanaloa, part of the Mansion House entertainment complex on Glassford Street.

Both the Glasgow bars are 5pm members and run regular deals on their food menus.
