Good Food Show Scotland opens

[][1]
There's no show without Punch. James Martin will be appearing

Greg and John are in town; the ovens in the Supertheatres are warming and the bottles are on ice in the drinks area. Everything is primed and ready for the BBC Good Food Show Scotland which opens in the SECC today.

We’ve blogged about the celeb chefs earlier but it’s not all about the TV pan rattlers. There are plenty of home grown food heroes to meet and greet such as John Boa, the 2011 winner of the Golden Spurtle at this year’s World Porridge Championship.

The show will also feature some of the best Scottish producers in the Scotland, Land of Food & Drink Regional Village or you can visit artisan producers from across the UK in the Producer Village.

Kids demos

There is plenty for kids to get their teeth into as well. Not many people know this but 2011 marks the 250th anniversary of the veterinary profession.

To mark the occasion, DG Sanco, the health and consumer arm of the European Commission, will be at the show for a weekend of educational cookery demos with local children from Glasgow. The aim is to showcase the importance of food safety and, the role vets play in ensuring the food chain remains safe all the way from farm to fork.

Over the show weekend, DG Sanco (European Commission Stand E60) will look to educate and entertain on the topic with a little help from award winning Scottish chefs Graeme Pallister, Tim Dover and Jason Henderson.

Born in Perthshire, Graeme Pallister is chef patron at 63 Tay Street where he has developed a menu using the guidelines of LOCAL – HONEST – SIMPLE. To support this message, Graeme will be hosting a cookery demo class at the Good Food Show with groups of school children.

On Friday 21st at 11am Graeme will lead a class of 8 year olds from Meadowburn Primary School in Bishopbriggs through a culinary master class while 2:30pm will play host to another captivated group of young faces, keen to get to grips with the topic of food safety and how vets play a vital role in this. 63 Tay Street is a 5pm member which is currently offering a five course dinner for £30. You can book here.

Saturday 22nd will see Jason Henderson chef patron of Knock Castle in the Perthshire town of Crieff take to the stand at 11am and 2:30pm to showcase his skills.

Tim Dover chef proprietor of The Roost Restaurant in Perth will round up the event on Sunday 23rd by rocking the stand at 11am and 2:30pm with some further exceptional culinary displays.

Children under 16 can get free entry to the show on Friday and on Sunday.
