New Michelin stars announced today

Dominic Jack, head chef at Castle Terrace, could be in the running for a Michelin star

The 2012 UK Michelin Guide is launched today at noon and the nation’s chefs are on tenterhooks as they wait to see what new stars will be awarded.

There are plenty of people who knock Michelin and reckon that it is outdated and irrelevant but they remain the Holy Grail for chefs. Being awarded a Michelin star puts your restaurant on the map and bums on the seats in the dining room.

Trying to second guess the Michelin inspectors is a fool’s game but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Castle Terrace, the winner of the Newcomer of the Year Award at the Scottish Restaurant Awards, were to gain a star.

Similarly, there would be loud cheers if Martin Wishart were to gain a second star.

A lot of people will also be rooting for Mark Greenaway whose eponymous restaurant at No. 12 Picardy Place has made quite a splash since opening earlier this year.

We will bring you the news as soon as its released but whose restaurant would you like to see garlanded with a Michelin star?
