Truffle time

Giorgio and the famed white truffles

So, what are you going to do this Friday night? You could throw together whatever is in the fridge and watch Downton on catch-up or you could get scrubbed up and swank on down to Edinburgh’s Hotel Missoni where Giorgio Locatelli is cooking up a white truffle dinner.

The Michelin starred Italian chef is hooking up with his old mucker Mattia Camorani, head chef at Cucina in Missoni. Together, they will rustle up a six course white truffle extravaganza which includes dishes such as Parmigiano reggiano risotto and pan fried veal fillet with mashed potatoes. All six courses will feature San Pietro a Pettine white truffle from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy.

Giorgio Locatelli said: ‘The white truffle is so incredibly unique because it is extremely fragile and impossible for man to cultivate artificially. Our truffles come from the San Pietro a Pettine estate in Italy and grow in the ancient woods until they are perfectly ripe. I know our guests will simply love their delicate and decadent taste.’

In case you needed any other incentive to visit, Cucina at Missoni snared the Best Italian Restaurant at the Scottish Restaurant Awards in February.

Tickets for the truffle blow-out are now on sale priced £80 for six decadent courses.  The menu can also be purchased with a wine-matching package for £120.

While Mr Locatelli is only up for one night, Cucina will be running their white truffle menu every night from the 17th of October.

If you’re an absolute truffle monster then you might want to book in for the truffle masterclass which Mattia is holding at Cucina on Wednesday 16th November. Tickets are £45.
